Did this: Nordstrom Holiday Shopping Party

On Sunday evening I had the great, GREAT pleasure of attending Nordstrom Ala Moana’s Holiday Shopping Party and I’m oh-Ho-Ho-Ho so glad that I made it because it was amazeballs! But then again, isn’t everything Nordstrom does amazing?

The whole purpose of the event was to celebrate Nordstrom’s Fashion Rewards members, and celebrate we did.

Cool it – it’s Perrier!

The party began with a grand entrance where Nordstrom employees lined the entry aisles and literally clapped and cheered as the line of eager and very spirited shoppers flowed in – its quite an experience and it makes you feel great about shopping at Nordy’s :)

[insert amazing photo here that I failed to capture because I was too excited - #fail]

In addition to Nordstrom offering shoppers 10 Fashion Rewards points per every dollar you spent, the more tangible highlight of the fabulous evening was definitely the deliciously delectable bites and beverages. Sunday’s menu featured savory items including mini bbq pulled pork sliders, crab cake lollipops (aka heaven in your mouth), truffleyaki beef tenderloin skewers and a to-die-for selection of desserts (also heaven in your mouth).

Plus, you most certainly can’t forget the libations! Leave it Nordstrom to treat everyone to their own bottle of Perrier and what seemed like endless glasses of Champagne and Chardonnay (cheers!).

And because it was a holiday shopping event, you better believe there were gift wrapping stations with wrappers on hand to help shoppers tidy up all their great purchases in those perfect little silver Nordstrom gift boxes (gosh I love the site of those boxes under the tree).

Needless to say I had an amazing time at the event. Now if only Santa (ah-hem, that tall guy in the grey jacket) got the clue that this orange leather jacket is at the top of my Christmas list ;) I mean, it’s probably the most practical Christmas gift you could get for a girl who lives in Hawaii, right?

And here’s one of Santa ;)

Aloha and Happy Holidays!

Floral Friday!

Hawaii_Fashion_Topshop_Floral_Top_closeI’m not gonna lie – I’ve worn this floral shirt over and over and over again since I picked it up from the new Topshop Collection at Nordstrom. Which basically means one thing: I FREAKIN’ LOVE IT! It’s classy enough for work, but funky enough for play. And that’s huge considering I spend my days in an office and my nights out on the town! Ok, I don’t spend all my nights out at the bars, but I’ll most certainly take any chance I get to let loose and enjoy life (read: enjoy a vodka soda – or 2, ok 3). But now for the reason I’m writing…Happy Floral Friday!

Although I don’t look very happy in this photo, I can assure you, I’m loving the florals. It’s the person behind the camera lens (boyfriend) who was the cause of this “over it” face I’m making.

Hawaii_Topshop_Floral_Top_Bag_Fashion_BloggerRecognize that gold and jade ring? Or what about that black leather purse?

Topshop at Nordstrom Tops the Charts

Hawaii fashion fiends scored BIG TIME last week with the opening of Topshop at Nordstrom Ala Moana. And I’m not exaggerating – apparently only 14 Nordstrom stores in the entire nation have earned this great honor :) Yipee! #luckywelivehawaii (sorry, had to!)

topshop_nordstrom_hawaii_alamoana.JPGI had the great pleasure of checking out the fabulous new addition to Nordstrom, and let me tell you, it was a Fashiorgasmic…

topshop_hawaii_fashions.JPGMichelle, the department manager (aka luckiest girl alive), did me the favor of walking me through the three collections featured at Nordstrom.

The first collection is the Sensationalist and is sort of Rihanna-esque. Lots of leather, studs, bling and some fierce footwear. I obviously loved everything.

topshop_nordstrom_leather_jacket_studded.JPG

I’m diggin’ the white lacey look mixed with the badass biker chick.

topshop_nordstrom_honolulu_sensationalist.JPG

Stud city chick, stud-stud city chick, black booties, black clutches on them Topshop chicks…(ok, I’ll stop)

The second collection is Pennsylvania, mixing florals and denim with camoflouge and a few studs here and there. These looks were sort of, I’m-a-girl-but-I’m-also-a-hard-ass-so-move-aside-esque.

topshop_nordstrom_manequins.JPGtopshop_nordstrom_army_stud.JPGtopshop_nordstrom_army.JPGThe last collection is Factory Girl and was my probably my favorite for two reasons: 1) The pieces are very, very Mad Men-esque (and I’m obsessed with Mad Men); 2) The pieces work well for the office, but can easily translate over to a night out.

topshop_nordstrom_honolulu_factory_girl.JPG

This green dress will make you look and feel like a Chanel girl without the hefty price tag!

topshop_nordstrom_hawaii_manequins.JPG

I’m Factory and I know it, know it, know it…

Being that I was immediately obsessed with EVERYTHING (I’m not exaggerating), I had to try it all on. Ok, not all, but quite a bit!

topshop_nordstrom_hawaii_dressing_room.JPG

A glimpse into my first round dressing room…and a special thanks to Michelle, Jackie and the rest of the department associates who helped me!

Although I would have loved to buy EVERYTHING, I didn’t because – NEWSFLASH – Topshop is here forever! I went for a couple of key pieces that I can get ample use out of. Plus, this is only the beginning. I’m sure they’ll have entirely new and equally as to-die-for pieces by this weekend.

Stay tuned for an upcoming post to find out what I ended up picking out for myself :)

And in case you’re wondering, the price points are amazing, especially on the denim!

My only gripe – the sizing is UK based, so swallow your pride and go up one or two sizes. But trust me, once you find the right fit, you’ll forget all about the fact that you’re not a size 4, because you’ll look amaze. I swear.

Aloha. {Ps. scroll down for more pics}

Nordstrom Hawaii Holiday Shopping Party

First things first: I’m ALIVE! I know I went M.I.A for a minute there. I’m like a gypsy blogger – or maybe not, but it sounds cool. Moving right along…

Despite having been alive and in control of all of my senses and decision making abilities, I didn’t participate in Black Friday. There, I said it – I DIDN’T participate in Black Friday. To be honest, the last time I joined the Black Friday madness was my senior year of college when I was in Vegas with my friends. I vaguely recall spending my Thanksgiving evening forcing my way through hoards of super-sale-seeking psychos people at the premium outlets (aka torture). After that horrible evening, I swore off Black Friday – I’m a fashion fiend, NOT a shopaholic (I hear you doubting me. Don’t doubt me and my ability to say ‘no’ to Tory, Marc, Michael, Steven, Valentino and Tom). Now, on to my point. I don’t do Black Friday because it’s too chaotic, but I DID do Nordstrom Hawaii Holiday Shopping Party this Sunday! And quite honestly, I’d die a happy woman and perhaps let myself be called a shopaholic (keyword: perhaps) if every shopping experience I had was as AMAZING as the Nordstrom Holiday Shopping Party.

I showed up at Nordstrom at 5:50 pm for the 6 pm event and this long line of excited shopaholics were already eagerly waiting for the doors to heaven Nordstrom to open.

Hawaii-fashion-event-Nordstrom-Ala-Moana

Behold - the calmest, longest line I

These shoppers were not of the Black Friday breed – these shoppers were nicely, patiently waiting in line (sans pepper spray). There were no elbow bumps, no profane slurs being shared between strangers and no tents, chairs or coolers! Compared to the horror stories I’ve heard about Black Friday, this line was heavenly. Oh, not to mention the complimentary water and welcoming smiles being served up by Nordstrom employees and caterers.

Once the Nordstrom angels opened the big, shiny, golden doors, the lines flowed in and were happily greeted by two lines of smiling and clapping Nordstrom employees. Yes, there was an applause for us!

Ok fine, my video sucks. But I was so taken back by the rounds of applause, I hardly had time to think about the orientation of my iPhone camera! Forgive me, please?

At the end of the applause, we were pleasantly greeted by glasses of champagne, beer (gotta keep the husbands happy), and sinfully delicious choices of tray passed pupus.

I

Delightfully delicious Chinese Chicken Salad!

As I enjoyed the my complimentary libations and drool-worthy pupu, I watched happily as shoppers floated around the store sipping champagne and enjoying the live Christmas music. This my friends and fiends is how SHOPPING SHOULD BE! Perhaps my request is a tad unrealistic, as most department stores surely can’t list Champagne and Sushi on the daily expense reports, but by golly (I just said ‘by golly’ and I’m ok with it), it’d be fantastic if they could!

Nothing like shiny floors and Christmas Decor!

Let’s not forget the cute “red carpet” photo opp they had for shoppers to enjoy:

So what did I buy? I wish I could tell you, but they’re gifts for my family and they read this blog (I hope), so my lips are sealed. I can say however that if I were a shopaholic who couldn’t control herself, I’d have happily handed over my Nordstrom card for these sparkly cheetah print Toms:

sparkly-cheetah-print-toms

Toms CLEARLY knows a thing or two about fashion!

And this AMAZEBALLS Valentino handbag:

valentino-rock-stud-purse

Are there even words to describe how I feel about this Valentino piece of amazingness?

Alas, neither item was purchased because I’m not a shopaholic, right? Regardless of what was and was NOT purchased, I still had a holly-jolly time with my fashion fiend friends.

Fun times with some fellow fiends!

A special thanks to Nordstrom for hosting another awesome event!

Nordstrom Hawaii Cosmetic Trend Show

There are those who wake up at 6 a.m. to get ready for work or to get in a nice morning jog. Then are those who wake up at 6 a.m. to go shopping. Yes, I’m part of the latter, but I’m going to assume you already guessed that. So what on earth could have coerced me into waking up at 6 a.m. to go shopping? The Fall 2011 Cosmetic Trend Show at NORDSTROM – duh! And the best part is that I wasn’t the only CRAZY person to wake up at 6 a.m. on a Saturday!

nordstrom-hawaii-cosmetic-trendshow-line

Crazies.

nordstrom-hawaii-cosmetic-trendshow

More crazies.

By 6:55 a.m., dozens of Nordy’s fans (read: serious shopaholics) were already lined up outside, sipping on complimentary coffee and chatting with the FABULOUS Nordstrom Beauty Experts who were floating around sharing inside secrets about the much anticipated show. By the time the doors opened, hundreds of fellow Nordstrom lovers filed into the store. Each guest was greeted by smiling faces and uuber cute metallic gift bags:

Love, love, LOVE her hot pink heels!

Everyone received one of these metallic purses!

Each seat the was outfitted with special promotional cards to use at different beauty counters:

More goodies!

The bada$$ people of Nordstrom turned the third floor into a rocking red carpet event, complete with a DJ, models, flashing lights, FABULOUS giveaways and enough energy to keep my sleepy eyes wide-open despite the fact that it was the crack of dawn 8 a.m. on a Saturday morning. nordstrom-hawaii-fashion-show

The boys on the left had some prime real estate seats - suckas.

The Red Carpet Glamour event featured a spread of the hottest beauty products on the market (all available at Nordstrom, duh). At one point in the show, I considered purchasing and using every featured product in an effort to look 25 forever. I ended up deciding against it, but I did settle on some SMASHING, DASHING products from Smashbox.

smashbox-luxe-box-makeup

Nothing like buying a box full of beauty products for only $68!

This box of magic can be yours for only $68 from Smashbox. BUY IT – you’ll thank me.

Oh, and thanks to the handy work of my BFF Lauren, I also scored a makeup appointment with the Smashbox counter – just in time for Halloween. My makeup artist Michelle was the BOMB. She took my look from blah to BEYONCE in 30 minutes:

smashbox-luxe-box-makeup

My makeup artist Michelle was AMAZING!

Yes, Lauren and I had to take one of these:

And although waking up at 6 a.m. on a Saturday was agonizing, NORDSTROM made it all worth it :)

Fashion Faux Pas Friday!

That’s right, it’s back! This time I’m not necessarily the culprit, but I did volunteer myself as the model (because who the heck else would I ask?)! This Friday’s Fashion Faux Pas is something that I see pretty often: sneakers and/or slippers with business attire.

missoni-bcbg-nike-sneakers-women

Excuse me while I go for a quick jog...or am I asking the photographer for a fist pound?

Ok, ok, so some women have sensitive feet, bad arches, bad backs, ingrown toenails and the list goes on. BUT, why wear amazing heels if they’re going to hideout under your desk all day? WHY? C’mon ladies, rock those heels and show off your sexy legs. Judge me if you like, but I just can’t stand sneakers unless of course they’re paired with some cute, sporty workout gear from Lululemon or perhaps a kickball jersey (because I’m a kickballer). Less mind boggling to me, but still a tad bit questionable are the slippers:

missoni-blouse-havaiana-slippers

The slippers aren't as bad, but still not my forte for business attire.

Why you ask, am I so irked by this? You see, I work in downtown Honolulu at a PR Firm that’s nearly all women (just one male, unless you count the creepy cut-out of David Bromstad that happens to be housed in my office). My job as a PR pro basically means this: 1) I’m busy as hell; 2) I get to go to cool events; 3) I often have to wake up at the most inappropriate hours to make sure clients don’t make fools of themselves on the morning news. (*Of special note: I woke up at 4:15 am this morning to meet a client for a morning show – OH.THE.JOY.) 4) My office is like a fashion show everyday because everyone (excluding David, who’s actually a piece of cardboard) dresses very fashionably – especially my boss.

Considering #4 above, it’s no wonder that when I step out of the fashion show office for lunch, I’m often taken back by the runway outfits that other professionals sometimes don. I understand the need for comfort, but in this particular case, I prefer to take my lunch in heels:

missoni-blouse-nine-west-bcbg

Now we're talking! Is it just me, or do the heels make my boobs look bigger? And why do I look so pissed? Maybe because my feet hurt? Oh, well. Beauty is pain, right?

And so, there you have it. Fashion Faux Pas Friday. These are just my thoughts, I’d love to hear yours. Are sneakers and/or slippers really a fashion faux pas?

On the model (don’t you love it!):
Glasses ~ Nordstrom BP
Blouse ~ Missoni for Target
Skirt ~ BCBG
Purse ~ Italian Leather (gift from my Italian BF. Love him for this, among other things)
Heels ~ Nine West
Slippers ~ Havaiana
Sneakers ~ Nike
